Rolled Oats vs. Steel Cut Oats or Groats

High cholesterol is a very serious problem for many americans. I take managing cholesterol levels seriously, that is why I need to let you know some great information about oats.

Many people ask why rolled oat and instant oats are not healthy. It is very simple rolled oats are overly processed. They are steamed and then rolled, steamed and then rolled over and over again. The goodness is processed out of them. Instant oats are rolled oats plus they have sugar and other unhealthy ingredients added. People like to eat rolled and instant oats because they do not take very long to make. If you eat them, you are saving time and the detriment of your health. Advertisements will tell you that eating rolled oats and instant oats you can reduce your cholesterol. That is probably true on a very small scale. If you eat groats or steel cut oats you can really put a dent in your cholesterol. Eating rolled or instant oats is like walking to the store in a snow storm, you will get there eventually but you will not be in very good shape when you arrive. Eating groats or steel cut oats is like driving your 4 wheel drive with snow tires to the store in the snow. It is just the smart thing to do.

Groats are whole oats. They are definitely the healthiest oat you can eat. Groats take longer to cook, but they are worth the wait. You can make a big pot at the beginning of the week.

Steel cut oats are whole oats that are sliced with a steel blade. They still take a long time to make but they are very delicious and slightly easier to eat than groats.
