Children's Brains Damaged By Verbal Abuse

On February 1, 2009, Biological Psychiatry reports that the initial studies of adults that were verbally abused as children had permanent damage to pathways in their brains. It has been widely known for many years that verbal and emotional abuse is harmful, but this new study was the first evidence.

The study as reported by the Harvard Medical School, which was quite small, only about 30 participants, is too small to be conclusive but is a good start towards future studies and a wake up call to parents.

Researchers believe that the damage is quite severe and that the verbal abuse could be just as damaging or worse than physical or other kinds of abuse.

Chastising, demeaning, rude and harmful comments should not be directed at or heard by children. They take this damage to their brains into adulthood and many times inflict the same verbal abuse on their own children or others.

Don't Have Octuplets it is Not Recommended

Just in case you thought it is a good idea to follow in the footsteps of others in the media, I just want to remind you of the obvious. It is not safe or healthy for anyone to have multiple births. It is considered a high risk pregnancy to even have twins. You do not want to risk your life or the life of your children by purposely trying to conceive multiples.

Not to mention the cost of all the diapers, wipes, clothing, formula, medical treatment.

Don't forget that you only have two hands and most people that come to help you out during the day are not going to stay there overnight, so it will be just you and your spouse most of the night.

Acai Berry Juice Benefits

Did you know that acai berry can also help you manage your cholesterol levels and keep your high cholesterol in check.

Have you tried acai berry juice. It is very tasty and it turns out that it is also good for you. It tastes much better than cranberry juice, grape juice, blueberries or pomegrantes. From what I hear it is very good for you. Energy boosting effects, helps with weight loss and antioxidants benefits that rival pomegrantes, blueberries and grapes.

I don't know if any of these claims are true, but I do know that it sure does taste good and I feel great after drinking it. If you want to learn more about acai berries you can read about them here.

If anyone has been using acai berry juice or other acai products let me know your results. Just send a message in the comments section. Thank you.

How To Raise Good HDL Cholesterol Levels

Managing your cholesterol levels is very important and high cholesterol should not be overlooked.

Your bad LDL cholesterol is not the only one you should be worried about. It turns out that bad LDL cholesterol is just one of the three cholesterols that you should keep control over. The three cholesterols are: Triglycerides, LDL cholesterol and the good HDL cholesterol. Not only do you want to keep the first two low, but you want to keep the third one high.

A low HDL cholesterol is not good for your health. Any number below 30 is considered low. Low HDL cholesterol is even considered one of the risk factors in getting adult onset, type 2 diabetes. That is right, ignoring this good cholesterol can later turn into a risk factor for diabetes.

Generally speaking your best bet to staying healthy is eating right and exercising every day. Assuming you are, there are only four foods that are know to raise your good HDL cholesterol. Only fish, almonds, olive oil and avocados have been proven to raise good HDL cholesterol.

Fish should be consumed at least three times per week. The best fish is wild caught salmon. It is more expensive and difficult to find, but you can usually find it. If more people ask for wild caught salmon, there will be more of a demand for it.

Almonds are an excellent snack and you only need to eat a small handful every day for all of their health benefits. If possible do not eat almonds that are too heavily salted.

Olive oil makes foods taste better and is very healthy as well. Try to eat a small amount of olive oil every day that is not cooked.

Avocados are said to be the most nutritious foods in the world. They are packed with health benefits.

Manage your cholesterol levels today and avoid getting high cholesterol.

Rolled Oats vs. Steel Cut Oats or Groats

High cholesterol is a very serious problem for many americans. I take managing cholesterol levels seriously, that is why I need to let you know some great information about oats.

Many people ask why rolled oat and instant oats are not healthy. It is very simple rolled oats are overly processed. They are steamed and then rolled, steamed and then rolled over and over again. The goodness is processed out of them. Instant oats are rolled oats plus they have sugar and other unhealthy ingredients added. People like to eat rolled and instant oats because they do not take very long to make. If you eat them, you are saving time and the detriment of your health. Advertisements will tell you that eating rolled oats and instant oats you can reduce your cholesterol. That is probably true on a very small scale. If you eat groats or steel cut oats you can really put a dent in your cholesterol. Eating rolled or instant oats is like walking to the store in a snow storm, you will get there eventually but you will not be in very good shape when you arrive. Eating groats or steel cut oats is like driving your 4 wheel drive with snow tires to the store in the snow. It is just the smart thing to do.

Groats are whole oats. They are definitely the healthiest oat you can eat. Groats take longer to cook, but they are worth the wait. You can make a big pot at the beginning of the week.

Steel cut oats are whole oats that are sliced with a steel blade. They still take a long time to make but they are very delicious and slightly easier to eat than groats.

Peanut Butter Recall

Keep your eyes and ears open for the peanut butter recall information. It seems as if they are adding more items every day. Cafeteria type foods such as peanut butter cookies and cakes, Walmart prepared cookies and cakes and Clif bars should be cut out of your diet for now. It does not appear that stores are taking all of the products off the shelf. I guess they are just trying to sell them out to see if anyone gets sick.

Don't trust the grocery store stock boy to keep you safe. Do not use these products and others on the recall list until we have the green flag that they have found the problem and it has been corrected.

You are what you eat, so....

That's right you guessed it. It is time to start watching what you put in your body. This blog will be dedicated to information on proper eating, dieting, fitness and teaching your children good eating habits. I am not a doctor and I am not giving any medical advice on this blog. If you have any questions about health please ask your doctor.

When I speak of eating healthy, I am not talking about the United States Government Food Pyramid. I am talking about real healthy eating, such as eating brown rice instead of white. We have the best government in the world however, they are not perfect at everything. They are trying to give everyone a general overview.

It is up to you to learn how to really save and prolong your life by eating healthy, exercising and avoiding as many bad habits and you possibly can.
